Identifying the Right Job that is Right for You
Many job seekers have trouble answering the question “what job is right for me?” And many actually resort to adapting their skills to any available job they come across with instead of analyzing their knowledge and skills to be able to find a job that would fit them. Some people who are skilled enough could succeed with this method but the majority will surely fail. Not to mention feeling unfulfilled if ever they get a job that they don’t really like.
If you want to achieve success in finding a job that is right for you, you have to clearly identify your goals, know what your skills are, know what you’re knowledgeable of, etc… There are certain questions that you can ask yourself in order to help you identify your goals and identify your skills. I’ve listed a few below and I will also talk about a method that I use to make everything clear in my mind and ultimately help me in answering the question “What job is right for me?”.
What I usually do when stricken by a job seeking problem is I work my way backwards. What do I mean? I think about what I want to achieve in the future; like my career goals, retirement plans, how I like people to remember me, the contribution that I want to have in the society, the amount of money I want to make, etc… It’s like daydreaming but its all part of the process. Write down whatever you come up with so you have a list.
Once you have all your plans and goals in writing, you can now clearly identify the things that you need to do in order to achieve them. Are your current skills enough to help you achieve your goals? If not, what skills do you need to develop? How will you go about acquiring those skills? These are important questions that will lead you to answering the question “what job is right for me?”
Another method that I recommend is to complete a personal assessment test. These tests will tell you what your strengths and weaknesses are in terms of skills and knowledge. But you have to be really honest when answering the questions; otherwise, the results will be incorrect and you’ll still be unable to answer the question “what job is right for me?”
Looking for a job can be a very challenging task, but not if you know what you are looking for and you know what you are good at. Many people get frustrated when looking for a job but it is mainly because they failed to plan and the never answered the question “what job is right for me?” I’m sure you want to be able to find your dream job soon so go ahead and assess yourself then go out and hunt.
